Are We Talking about the Same Film?

I watched a fair bit more of the Oscars than I normally do. I blame it on Jon Stewart. While I missed some of the big awards like best actor, I did manage to see Memoirs of a Geisha pick up several design awards. Everyone thanked the production company for being brave. Now, to be crude, it's essentially a hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold movie. Hollywood loves those. There's nothing brave in producing a film where a man's love (and protection) will fix everything. Gag.

Oh, and people should stop being surprised that Crash won best picture. It makes perfect sense. The director of the gay cowboy movie wins best director so the race movie needs to win a different big award.

The Oscars always bring out my worst inner cynic. The only films nominated for an award that I ever actually want to see are the animated shorts. Hmph.

There's nothing below the fold.

i have to say that the jon stewart factor had me in there with you. he was obviously nervous and i find that adorable about him.

what the hell was with all of those "you should go out and spend money at the theatres" montages from hell?

Jon's just swings between adorable and hot. If I were straight and he weren't a married father of two, he'd be my boyfriend.

I hate those effin' montages. The film noir one this year was crrrraptastic! It is fun, though, to see in which montage they'll squeeze Sindey Poitier saying, "They call me Mr. Tibbs!" because, dude, they use it every year.

What a bunch of status-quo-upholding, patriarchy-supporting losers they are in Hollywood.
